Welcome
In today’s world digital technologies have become firmly embedded in everyday life. Although digital technologies have provided individuals with the means to lead more productive and rewarding lives, they have also caused significant social, cultural and economic problems worldwide. As such those individuals denied access to digital technologies are considered less capable of participating in a knowledge driven economy that is dependent on technology. Essentially a digital divide exists between those individuals who have access to and knowledge of digital technologies and those who do not (McNair 2000; Honan 2006).
The purpose of this webpage is to explore how the digital divide has manifested within Australia and to evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies imposed by the Australian government to combat the digital divide.
